Shania Twain Las Vegas DVD is released
Yippee! The moment has finally arrived where we can relive Shania Twain's comeback show from Las Vegas. When you finish school, work or whatever your daily routine is, there is only one of two things you must have on your agenda:
- Go the nearest store where you can buy music/DVDs
- Go online and order a copy of Shania Twain - Still The One
If you haven't already rushed to open your lap top or flipped the switch on your iPad to quickly fix the error of your ways, here is some inspiration (not that you need it, but it's an excuse to share it):
Goodbye Riviera - historic Las Vegas landmark closes it's doors
One of Las Vegas' oldest casinos announced that it will be closing down. Yesterday the iconic Riviera declared that "With no shortage of sadness, we can confirm that our doors will close at noon on May 4, 2015."
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board of directors agreed to purchase the Riviera in order to demolish the structure, in favor of building a new convention center to extend current exhibit space by a staggering 750,000 square feet.
Known by the locals as the "Riv" which opened on June 20th, 1955 and is one of the oldest casinos on the Strip. It will be greatly missed by many, including myself! As we prepare to say goodbye to piece of Las Vegas history, we still have the chance to make some new memories in 2 months Riviera remains open. So book a room today!
If you can't make it to Vegas before closing, the Riv will be immortalized on the silver screens and according to the Las Vegas Informer, Nicolas Cage has been spotted shooting scenes for his upcoming movie “The Trust” only yesterday!
Other famous films which feature the Riviera Hotel and Casino include:
- Ocean's Eleven (1960)
- Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
- Casino (1995)
- Showgirls (1995)
- Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)
- Vegas Vacation (1997)
- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
- Go (1999)
- 3000 Miles To Graceland (2001)
- Crazy Girls Undercover (2008)
- 21 (2008)
- The Hangover (2009)
Over the years the Riviera has seen many famous faces, legendary performers including Elvis Presley, Luciano Pavarotti, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were headliners here.
If you're in Las Vegas any time from now until May 4th 2015, I strongly urge you to stop by the Riv and soak up some classic Las Vegas. No doubt they'll have a few surprises up their sleeve from now until then.
Riviera - thanks for the memories!
Happy 80th Elvis
Elvis Presley would have been 80 on 8th January 2015. His image can still been seen and felt in Las Vegas to this day. Just take a walk down the Strip and you will find Elvis impersonators, novelty gold rimmed sunglasses and "Elvis slept here" signs.
Elvis has certainly left his mark on the city and here are a couple of my favourite Elvis Las Vegas moments:
- Elvis starred in the 1964 film "Viva Las Vegas" which for the most part was filmed in Las Vegas, Henderson, Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.
- Between 1969 to 1976 Elvis gave over 800 live performances. During his residency he would stay in the penthouse suite at the Westgate (formerly known as International Hotel).
- Elvis married Priscilla in 1967 at Planet Hollywood (formerly Aladdin)
- Current day Las Vegas resident performer Celine Dion sang a duet with Elvis "If I Can Dream"

Things may have changed a lot since Elvis was alive, but Las Vegas remains the entertainment capital of the world and if Elvis were alive today, the party would have been right here in Vegas.
